My First Blog Post

So this is me…

“time is a tree, this life one leaf” – E.E. Cummings

Yep. I’m a newbie. I’ve never blogged before. So be patient and we’ll see where this thing goes. I enjoy writing and I love to make things with my hands. I thought it might be nice to try and combine the two.

So let's start here,
And if you lend me your ear,
I'll write what I bake,
And things that I make.
A blog to share,
About things that I care.
And as life gets in the way,
I'll tell you about my day.
And if you wish to speak,
A comment would be chic.

Hmm. That was fun. I’ll be on again later today and maybe post some pics. I’ll write a bit more about me too.

Winter is back

After a weekend of shoveling, shoveling, and more shoveling, I feel pretty confident in saying that winter has decided to come to Northern Michigan after all.

Wow! I’m not sure exactly how much snow actually fell but it looks like about two feet! I should have taken before and after pictures. 😁

Yesterday, with the sun shining through our kitchen windows, I decided to try a new pizza recipe. I think it turned out pretty well. It’s a pan pizza made in our cast iron skillet. What do you think?

Pepperoni and Sausage (on half) pan pizza
Out of the pan
Doesn’t that look yummy?

Happy New Year

Well, New Year’s Day has come and gone and 2020 is started. Did I make any resolutions? Only one: to get more sleep. So many people do not get enough sleep and I know that I am one of them. Somehow, I would like to make sure that I get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. I usually get 6 hours and occasionally I’ll have to make it through the day on 5, but the other night I was only able to get 4 and that was a killer day. I was in such a fog. So, I figure if I can get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, I’m setting myself up to have a more productive day and more energy to do the things I love.

School is back in session. I’m so ready to be done. I have one more year to go and then I’ll have my degree. I’m working towards a B. S. in Accounting and I’m doing it while working full-time so it’s been slow going. I feel like I’ve been at university forever! Okay, maybe not forever, but it has been a long time and I’m very grateful that there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel. As my husband says, “Let’s hope it’s not the express train.” 😄

I’m off to bed for now but I thought I’d share a pic of one of the wonderful desserts that I made for a dear friend when she left our company. It turned out so well that I just had to take a picture of it. Feast your eyes on this beauty:

That is a genoise cake with strawberries and whipped cream. It was the perfect summer dessert. The cake was delicate, the strawberries were perfectly fruity and the whipped cream tied it all together deliciously. Not too heavy and lightly sweet. And the chocolate shavings added some complexity to the taste. Best of all, I had so much fun making it!

Beautiful day today

It really was a gorgeous summer day here in the northwest region of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Sunny and warm, it was perfect for a lazy Sunday drive. Needless to say, I spent most of my time outdoors. Did not get much done inside today. I refuse to apologize because these nice days only last for about three months out of the year. I’m not complaining, just stating a fact. I absolutely love where I live. My husband and I live about ten minutes from Lake Michigan and we enjoy hiking trails and just driving along the inner coast line. One of our favorite hikes is the Empire Bluffs. I’ll leave it with a pic of that today.
